Ethnically and fraternal-related organizations along with churches, were also an important part of the workers’ lives, especially those workers who were recent immigrants. These organizations helped their members understand the community around them by helping with language instruction  They advocated for their members when they were in trouble, and often provided their members with burial insurance and connections to find a job. These organizations also provided a social outlet by organizing picnics and dances.
