Alfred Mortenson

Occupation:
Ethnic group:

1905 Payroll and St. Paul City Directory. Alfred Mortenson (or Martinson) was born in Sweden in 1877 and came to Minnesota in 1896. He worked for Butler Bros. as a machinist on the construction.

Gustave Bergman also lived here in 1900.

Most of the workers who constructed the Minnesota Capitol belonged to unions. However, we do not have evidence that machinists in St. Paul laborers were organized during the period when the Capitol was built between 1896 and 1907. However, as skilled workers, machinists could well have been unionized, so Mortenson's union status is currently unknown.
