Godfried Lenzer

This is approximately where 257 W. 3rd was located. Gottfried Lenzer was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1856 and came to America in 1881. Emmett Butler attributes much of the Butlers' success to Lenzer's skill in estimating construction costs. According to a report in Stone magazine of June 1900 Lenzer and fellow Butler employee Joseph Bourgeault had leased a stone quarry in Marquette, Michigan. Soon after Lenzer went into business as an architect.

Wells Bennet

Wells Bennett worked as a "draughtsman" in Butler-Ryan's office . He was born in La Cross, Wisconsin in 1871 and he returned there soon after the Capitol was completed and became an architect.
