Stenographer

Stenographers are individuals who are employed to take and write down dictation using specific and specialized forms of shorthand. In contemporary times, most stenographers are utilized as court reporters in courts of law.

Edward Ode

Occupation: 

1904 City Directory and 1905 Census. Edward Ode, born in 1881, worked in Butler Bros. office. He gave his occupation as stenographer in the 1905 Census.

There may be additional information at Find A Grave, though the birth dates of the two sources of information differ by a year.  The Edward P. Ode shown on the FAG site was born in 1880 IN Dubuque, IA and died in 1961 and is buried at Calvary Cemetery.  He was married to Loretta J. Ode (1863-1939).

Catherine M. Butler

Occupation: 

Stenographer Catherine Butler was born in Minnesota in 1877 of Irish parents. She and her brother Joseph lived at this address with their parents. She worked in Butler-Ryan's office and Joseph worked on the Capitol as a bricklayer. Catherine married Edward Kannary and she lived a long life in St. Paul dying in 1978 at the age of 101!
