Herman Peterson

Occupation: 

Herman Peterson was a carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local 87 though he identified himself as a "planer" in both the 1899 and 1900 (when he was living at 643 Wells with his brother,August, also a Capitol worker) CDs. He was born in Sweden in 1873 and emigrated in 1892. He worked on the Capitol for many years and is listed as a carpenter in the 1904-5 Payroll records.

Otis Phippen

Occupation: 
1904-1905 Butler Bros. Payroll. Otis Phippen was born in Wisconsin in 1879 and moved to Minnesota in 1903. He is listed in the Payroll as a laborer, although he gave his occupation as "structural ironworker" in the 1905 Minnesota Census.
 

Frederick Pickering

Frederick Pickering was admitted into the St. Paul Local of the Journeyman Stone Cutters on a traveling card in May of 1899. He was a union activist and is found in 1908 as vice president of a new local in Fernie, British Columbia. (Stone Cutter Journal Dec. 1908). Many itinerant stone cutters lived at this address.
