William Rau

Occupation: 

Dale and Bumgardner Payroll. William Rau was born in Minnesota of German parents in 1883. He named his occupation as "teamster" in the 1900 Census though he was paid as a laborer on the grading of the Capitol grounds. (King St. was called Louisa St. at that time.)

William Reed

Occupation: 

1904 City Directory. William J. Reed was born in Illinois in 1883. He lived in Minneapolis and worked as a stonecutter eventually becoming a draftsman for a stone contractor. Reed died in Minneapolis in 1937.

Arnold Reibestein

1900 City Directory and Census. Arnold Reibestein, (misidentified in the CD as A. Reidesdon), was born in Minnesota of Bohemian parents, Anna and Franz Reibestein, a stonemason in 1871. The family lived in Mankato, MN. Arnold joined the St. Paul Local of the Journeyman Stone Cutters Union in April of 1898 and served the local in several capacities including president in 1900. Reibestein raised a large family in St. Paul and was a city inspector in 1920.

Hugo Reich

The photo is from the November 1903 issue of The Stone Cutters' Journal. Hugo Reich (1869-1936) was a union activist and served as president of the Union Local, member of the Executive Board of the Journeyman Stone Cutters of North America, as well as delegate to the 1902 North American Stone Cutters' convention. He was born in Germany, came to America in 1882, and lived in Duluth but moved to St. Paul in 1895. By 1910 he had moved on to Indiana and he died in Cook County, Illinois in 1936.

James Reid

Occupation: 

Born in Massachusetts of Scotch and Irish parents in 1874, James Reid moved to St. Paul with his parents. He became a bricklayer and was active in the Union being elected to serve on the auditing committee in 1908. Reid raised a large family and died in St.Paul in 1928.

Thomas Rice

Occupation: 

Dale and Bumgardner Payroll. Thomas Rice was born in New York in 1869. He was active in Teamsters Local 120 and was a delegate from the union to the St. Paul Trades and Labor Assembly in 1908 and 1909.
