Young Simon Shiely was 17 when started his career as a bricklayer at the Capitol. He was 3rd generation Irish, born in Minnesota in 1883 and he lived in this house with his parents and their large family for many years. He married and raised a family in St. Paul working as a bricklayer. Shiely was honored in 1957 for being a 55 year member of Bricklayers Local 1. He died here in 1961 at the age of 78.
Laborer Michael Shinneus (Sheenest in the 1900 Census) was born in Wisconsin to Irish emigrant parents in 1850.
1902 Beam painting payroll. William Sier was born in Canada in 1863 and came to Minnesota in 1900. He worked as a laborer on a crew scraping steel beams in preparation for painting.
Bookkeeper. In 1899 Signs was living at 21 Aurora, in the shadow of the Capitol site.
Frank Skiba (1870-1953) worked as a teamster on the consturction of the Minnesota State Capitol. Frank and his wife Mary O'Konek Skiba (1875-1968) are buried at Saint Johns Catholic Cemetery Foley, Benton County, Minnesota.
1904 City Directory. David Skog worked as a "polisher" for Butler Bros. according to the 1902 City Directory.
1905 Payroll and St. Paul City Directory. William Slattery worked on the Capitol as a laborer.
1903 City Directory. Bert Smith worked on the Capitol as a laborer.
1904 City Directory. Steven Smith worked as a stonecutter on the Capitol.
1903 City Directory. Alfred Snow worked as a laborer on the Capitol.
