Frederick Bucholtz

Occupation: 

1904-1905 Butler Bros. Payroll. 1904 City Directory. Frederick Bucholtz worked as a laborer on the Capitol. Frederick Bucholtz was born in Germany in 1866 and came to Minnesota in 1893. He and his wife, Marie, were married in St. Paul and they raised a family here.

Casiville Bullard

Occupation: 

A stone mason and bricklayer by trade, Casiville Bullard is probably the best known worker from the State Capitol construction. Born in Tennesee in 1871 and the son of former slaves, he was the eldest in a family of seven children. As a child he picked cotton with his parents and was instructed in bricklaying and masonry by an uncle, becoming skilled at laying brick, marble, and granite. He moved to Saint Paul in the late 19th century to work on the Minnesota State Capitol Building.

Louis Bumgardner

Occupation: 

Louis Bumgardner was a partner of Dale and Bumgardner, the firm that did the grading of the Capitol grounds. He was born in Ohio in 1858, moved to Minnesota, married, and raised a family here working as a contractor for the rail roads. Louis Bumgardner lived a long life and died in St. Paul in 1955 at the age of 96. (Lookout Place was located about where Sims is now.)
